By recognising that we don't always need to know the end goal. But investing in projects because they offer a process that leads us somewhere, but we don't know exactly where. Playfulness is about joyfulness and whimsy and being able to offer of yourself and the experience you have without care or concern of judgement or expectation. To be more playful, we need to be more child like. If we invest in our city in a child-centred way, we will make it a more playful space.Join to like or comment 6 people like this.

Fair call, I should have said that getting bums on seats has more to do with the success and sustainability of these kinds of initiatives. Its one thing to say we need x, y and z in a city but it has to be backed up with getting out the door and participating.

-*Idea*- "Garbage Quest" Gamification holds many keys - According to this: http://www.melbourne.vic.gov.au/COMMUNITYSERVICES/COMMUNITYSAFETY/Pages/SafeCitycameras.aspx, there are 53 security cameras in the city, why not use and show their footage in a gameful way? Use image recognition to identify garbage (as small, stationary objects) and show a score in a screen. The less garbage the more points! Clean something and you get a QR code that gives you points (that could serve as discounts towards goverment payments for example). Though this dances a little bit with an orwellian landscape of citizen-monitoring!Join to like or comment 6 people like this.

I'm sitting here at the Games Arcade set up...and there are noises and images and things happening. It reminds me of a key part of early childhood learning through play - and the strong focus on sensory play. We need to build sensory environments to make a city more playful - we need more water to touch and run in (like the water wall at the art gallery), we need sand pits and touchscreens and more music (like the recent spate of orchestral flash mobs in Europe) - creating sensory spaces will help people be more playful...Join to like or comment 7 people like this.

I will use space to also further expand on my ideas, it will be great even as a personal registry :), and I hope someone finds any value in them: Here is the first one, a physical space where you build up a creature that has parts embedded with sensors. It can be big and built up collaboratively, the interesting part is that it will be linked to an automatic qr code generator that gives you a living and animated version of the character you built for your phone.Join to like or comment 3 people like this.
